This is a *very* late review for the gardening/cook book The Edible Balcony by Indira Naidoo. I went to the launch about six months ago where we were lucky enough to try some of the food cooked from recipes in the book — the potato, pea and coriander samosas were a particular favourite 🙂

Indira has split the book into seasons so you can follow the book during the year for advice on what to grow at that time — and what to cook with your home-grown produce. For example I made the tart above last week which was a fantastic Autumn desert. We don’t have figs so we had to buy them but we already had most of the other ingredients including the fresh thyme leaves.
The book would be particularly useful for those without much gardening experience, regardless of whether they are gardening on a balcony or in a yard. As somebody with a bit more gardening experience, I prefer the recipes — they are achievable and beautifully photographed to inspire those of us who have trouble deciding what to cook 🙂
