A growing list of birds in our garden

One of the goals of our backyard native garden is to attract native birdlife. The early signs are that it’s working.

We now have a regular group of visiting birds, including two nesting pairs of kookaburras (shown above), and a friendly flock of rainbow lorikeets (below). Add to that the usual noisy miners, native pidgeons, ibis, currawongs and crows.

Having a birdbath definitely helps, and our flowering bushes should also attract birds, once they’ve grown a little bit more. So hopefully the list of local birds should continue to grow!

    He’s a pretty Kookaburra! I have a pair that sit on my fence and washing line, and have done for months. They spot food from an incredible distance and it makes me wonder how on earth they do it. I also have many Rainbow Lorikeets, who make an inordinate amount of noise, and fight occasionally, sometimes tumbling to the ground in their furore. I also have a couple of large green frogs and a water dragon. For a suburban back garden, and a small one at that, in Noosa, that’s not bad by my reckoning. They all bring me a lot of pleasure, as I am sure your small friends do for you as well. Keep up the great work! The development and journey of your garden is always an inspiration for me.
